Congress has called for the intervention of Indian President Draupadi Murmu regarding the Central Government's Agniveer Scheme, raising concerns about its impact on the future of the youth. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a letter to President Murmu on Monday, urging her to allow the induction of approximately 2 lakh youth into the defense forces before the implementation of the Agniveer Scheme. Rahul Gandhi, echoing Kharge's sentiments, expressed solidarity with the candidates, emphasizing their fight for justice.

Kharge's letter highlighted the plight of nearly two lakh young men and women who were selected for recruitment in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force between 2019 and 2022. Despite passing rigorous tests and examinations, their future became uncertain due to the termination of the regular recruitment process and the imposition of the Agniveer Scheme. Kharge criticized the government's decision, stating that it has shattered the dreams of these aspiring youth, who were eagerly awaiting their joining letters, only to be met with disappointment.
